MEF urges Government to clarify foreign worker permit renewal policy |

PETALING JAYA, Mon: The Malaysian Employers Federation today called on the government to clarify its policy on the renewal of permits for the existing foreign workers. Its executive director, Shamsuddin Bardan said of late the federation had received many complaints from members who were finding it difficult to renew the permits. |

Foreign workers to enjoy RM4 billion levy exemption |

KUALA LUMPUR, Wed:
The 2.2 million foreign workers in the country would enjoy a RM4 billion windfall this year because they need not pay the levy as it would be borne by their employers. From April, it was compulsory for employers to pay the RM1800 levy per worker per year for both new workers and those who renewed their visas, the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) executive director, Shamsuddin Bardan said today. |

More Stringent Conditions For Outsourcing Companies |

PUTRAJAYA, May 19 (Bernama) -- Stringent measures have been put in place to ensure outsourcing companies dealing with foreign labour do not bring in excess workers and flood the local market, Human Resources Minister, Datuk Dr. S. Subramaniam, said today.
"These companies would now have to justify their request to a special committee at the ministry before they are given the green light to obtain the required permits," he told Bernama. |

Foreign workers must now get Certificate of Eligibility |

PETALING JAYA: Foreign workers, including domestic maids, from 10 countries are now required to undergo a mandatory induction course and obtain the Certificate of Eligibility (CE) before applying for visas to work in Malaysia. The new ruling issued by the Human Resources Ministry and Immigration Department has been implemented from May 1. Malaysian Association of Foreign Maid Agencies president Datuk Raja Zulkepley Dahalan, who issued a statement on the ruling, said that it would only encourage domestic maids to enter the country illegally. |

Cabinet defers increase in levy on foreign workers |

KUALA LUMPUR: The cabinet has decided to defer temporarily the implementation of the foreign worker levy hike, Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam said yesterday. He said the cabinet made the decision at its last weekly meeting after considering the request by employers, especially restaurant owners who felt that the hike would burden them more. |
